Cambridge Mathematics and Science Workshop on Global Insights for Primary and Lower Secondary Educators was conducted on 22 January 2025 at the Hotel Hyatt Place. The workshop was divided into 2 sessions. The 1st session was introduction and exploring of Cambridge Primary and Lower Secondary Math and Science activities. The 2nd session was about exploring 5 key approaches implemented in the resources, namely Active learning, formative assessment, differentiation, language awareness and metacognition.
The key topics discussed during the workshop included:
• Cambridge Curriculum Overview: Discussion on the structure and content of the Cambridge curriculum for primary and lower secondary education was done.
• Strands and Sub-strands in Mathematics and Science: Various strands and sub-strands of the Cambridge math and science were discussed.
• Mathematical Skills and Scientific Thinking: An introduction to the 8 mathematical skills and the concept of "thinking and working scientifically." One of the notable resources introduced was an app named ‘Animal 4D’, which provides an interesting way of learning about animals.
• Critical Thinking Activities: Few fun activities on critical thinking were conducted.
• Learner’s Book: Explanation of the approaches used in the learner book was done as getting started exercise, activity, explanation, formative assessment.
• Teaching and Learning Approaches: Five key approaches to teaching and learning were highlighted.
• Cambridge Workbook: Cambridge workbook was explored which is made as per the differentiation approach.
Key Insights and Learnings:
• Differentiation in Assessments: Workbook and question papers to be made keeping differentiation in mind.
• English Language Skill: It was highlighted that integrating English language skills into math and science can support students in grasping complex subject matter which can be found on Cambridge go website.
• Digital Resources: Educators were introduced to online teaching and learning resources, including YouTube channels and brighter thinking pods.
Conclusion: The workshop was full of interesting activities and educators came to know about few online resources which can help them in teaching and learning process.
