ANNUAL INTER-HOUSE ATHLETIC MEET

The 81st Annual Inter-house Athletic Meet at MGD Girls’ School began with the Opening Ceremony on 12 November 2024. The Chief Guest for the event was Honorary Captain Shriram Singh Shekhawat, recipient of the Padma Shri award and Arjuna Award. He is an athlete of international fame, having won a number of awards and medals in the field of athletics.

The ceremony began with the unfurling of the school flag and the house flags by the Chief Guest, Principal, Mrs Archana S Mankotia and all four house masters.

This was followed by a synchronised display of Marchpast by all the four houses, the NCC troop and the school band.

The field was brought to life by the energetic and rhythmic performance of Aerobics and a skill drill of various games like hockey, taekwondo, football and basketball learnt during the day boarding classes by the students of class 6. The young gymnasts of classes 6 and 7 captivated the audience with a display of flexibility and agility with their pyramid formation, triple roll, vaulting and cart roll.

The highlight of the day was the equestrian event by 6 young riders of MGD- Rudrakshi Shekhawat, Parikshita Rathore, Advaita Naval, Dhruvangana Kalvi, Vishveshwari Rathore and Tejaswini Ranawat who are receiving professional training ranging from a span of one to six years. The graceful and elegant movements of trotting and cantering added splendour to the show.

The Chief Guest praised the smooth conduct of the event. He mentioned that the discipline of the students and the commitment of the school towards perfection was noteworthy. He also motivated the girls to take up various games for a 3 dimensional growth of the personality.

The event was also witnessed by the Principal, Staff and 31 students of the PM Shri Smt Indira Mayaram Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bagru and the parents of the participating students.

The 81st Annual Inter-House Athletic Meet concluded on 14th November, 2024, with glitz and magnificence.

The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony was Ms Shagun Chowdhary, an acclaimed trap shooter, and the first Indian woman to qualify for the Olympic trap shooting event.

An alumna of Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School (Batch of 2001), she is an Asian Games Medalist and has won multiple National Games Championships.

The day began with the final races- 100m dash in the categories - Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior.

Next, was the enigmatic yoga display, which invoked an inherent sense of calm in the tense sports arena.

The exciting Taekwondo Display followed, enrapturing viewers.

The NCC dance drama based on the life of Captain Anuj Nayyar, recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra, added a breeze of patriotism to the entire show. It left the audience in awe of the bravery of the India soldiers and the sacrifices of Captain Anuj Nayyar. The dance drama was scripted by Chief officer Ms Anjali Sharma and was enacted by all the NCC cadets.

This was followed by a set of engaging games for the parents who had joined us for the event. The games included Tug of war and races for the parents.

As the meet signalled to a close, the houses gathered for a march, led by the athletes of their respective houses.

The flags of the School and the four houses were lowered, representing the end of the event and returned to the respective custodians, i.e., the House Mistresses and the Chief Guest who as is the tradition, hands it over to the Principal for safekeeping.

The Chief Guest shared the anecdotes of her school life, her passion for games and sports and her love for her Alma mater- MGD. Ms Shagun inspired the students by stressing the importance of identifying one's passions and then determinently working towards the goal. She also advised the young girls to not look for validation in the eyes of peers and society and to keep moving forward in the right direction of their goal.

Helen Keller House emerged as the Overall Winner at the 81st Annual Athletic Meet of MGD School.
