17th East India Debate

The 17th East India Debate was hosted by The Assam Valley School, Assam from 8th to 11th September 2022 on virtual platform. The event witnessed participation of 20 schools across the country. MGD Girls’ School team was represented by Falguni Gupta of grade 10, Disha Chaudhary and Vidushi Chaturvedi of grade 11 and Navya Nair of grade 12 in the 4-day event. The students were guided in this endeavour by Ms Neetu Mathur. The event comprised three Preliminary rounds, Pre-quarter finals, Quarter-finals, Semi-Finals and the Final round. Ms Neetu Mathur was also on the panel of judges for the three preliminary rounds. In the preliminary rounds, MGD was paired up with Vasant Valley School, Delhi, Maria's Public School, Guwahati and The Assam Valley School. The debates featured motions like 'This house believes that you can control your fate' (against), 'This house believes that human bias and prejudice can be eliminated through education' (for) and 'This house believes that movies breed crime' (for). Team MGD won in the first preliminary round and Vidushi Chaturvedi was declared the Most Promising Speaker. MGD advanced to the Pre-Quarter Finals and won against St. George’s College, Mussoorie, with the motion being 'This house believes that the bleak future of sports in India is beginning to change'(for). Navya Nair was declared the Best Speaker and Disha Chaudhary got the Most Promising Speaker award. The team then made its way to the Quarter-Finals against The Sanskaar Valley School, Bhopal, with the motion being, 'This house regrets the use of e-voting' (for). The 4-day event covered invigorating debates and enlightening feedback by judges and altogether, it was an enriching experience.
