Math Week

11th July - 16th July 2022 *“The only way to learn Mathematics is to do Mathematics”* In an endeavor to lay a strong foundation of Mathematics subject, Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School, Jaipur organized a Maths week in the month of July for the students. Maths week aimed to introduce the students with a fun way of learning. A number of exciting activities like Vedic Maths, Tangrams and Origami were conducted in classes by student volunteers. Taking the celebration as an opportunity, budding mathematicians from the school showcased their knowledge of Mathematical concepts, their thinking, analytical and application skills by presenting the conceptual knowledge in an exhibition that was held on the last day in the school stadium. It was well received by the Principal, the Administrative Officer and all the visitors. *Day 1* The first day of the Maths week included Slogan writing and Poster Making.There was usage of unique quotes, calligraphy and tie-dye. *Day 2* Interactive session which showed various aspects of teamwork and a new skill. This activity was different than the usual as Tangrams were newly introduced to the students, educational yet creative. *Day 3* ORIGAMI , the Japanese art of folding paper helps students to learn about basic geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles and triangles. It also improves their eye hand coordination. *Day 4* Vedic Mathematics, a collection of Methods or Sutras to solve numerical computations quickly and faster. It consists of 16 Sutras which can be applied to the solving of problems in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Conics, etc. The Vedic Maths activity helped the students to remember formulae and tables. It also helped students calculating in a faster manner and even solve simple mathematical operations. *DAY 5* Exhibition - models displayed and activities conducted. Sanskrit shlokas based on Maths, Role play on mathematicians, models based on the theorems of Algebra etc. were some events that marked the culmination.
